How is asbestos testing done on a home or office?

If it is likely you will need to have asbestos testing carried out on your home or office, you will obviously want to know how it is usually done. Does it take a long time? Is it one hundred percent accurate? How long does it take to receive the test results?

How is asbestos testing done? — This depends on whether you decide to do the testing yourself, or if you hire a company to do it for you.

Other than the cost of the testing kit, doing it yourself is free. Hiring a company to do it has fees attached.

Once you decide which is your best option, there are two different ways of asbestos testing. Depending on if you or a company is doing it.

Your own asbestos testing — If you choose to test your property for asbestos yourself, it is quite simple to do. Buy a testing kit, follow the instructions for taking adequate samples, and then take samples from any area of the property you feel is a likely place where asbestos is hiding. Package up the samples, and mail them to the testing lab that processes samples for that particular kit. Your results will be sent to you via email.

Asbestos testing by a private company — If you hire a company, they will send a technician to your property to take the proper samples. As they are highly skilled and experienced at doing this, sample taking does not take long. Once they are finished, they will either process your samples back in their own facility, or mail them to the licensed testing lab they usually use. Again, you can expect to receive the full test results in two or three days.

If you do have asbestos on your property, the company will then give you several options to consider in order to have it removed. For more details click on loose-fill asbestos insulation.
